Your rights under Australian Consumer Law
Nothing on this site, in our terms, or in a quotation reduces your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Those rights sit alongside any manufacturer warranty and cannot be contracted out of.
The consumer guarantees
Goods supplied in Australia come with guarantees that cannot be excluded. In broad terms they must be of acceptable quality, match their description, be fit for any purpose made known to the supplier, and be supported by available spare parts and repair facilities for a reasonable time. Services must be provided with due care and skill.
What that means in practice
For a major failure you are entitled to a replacement or refund, and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss. For a failure that is not major you are entitled to have it fixed within a reasonable time, and if that does not happen, to a refund or replacement.
Whether a guarantee applies to a particular supply depends on the circumstances. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission explains all of this plainly at accc.gov.au/consumers.
