Safe use of equipment
Commercial gym equipment is heavy, it is loaded, and it is used by people who are tired. Most of what goes wrong is installation and maintenance, not the machine.
Before it is used
- Equipment must be assembled and commissioned by a competent installer, following the manufacturer's instructions.
- Anything the manufacturer specifies as requiring anchoring must be anchored, to a floor that can take it.
- Leave the clearances in the manufacturer's manual around every machine. Circulation space is a safety requirement, not a layout preference.
- Check the floor. Loading, levelness and surface all matter, and they are the most common reason a machine does not sit right.
In service
- Inspect cables, belts, pins, fasteners and upholstery on a schedule, and keep a record of it.
- Take a machine out of service the moment a fault is suspected, and label it so it stays out of service.
- Use the pins, collars and safety catches supplied. Do not modify a machine or substitute parts.
- Users should be inducted before first use, and supervised where the facility's policy requires it.
Servicing
Follow the service intervals in the manufacturer's documentation. Servicing should be carried out by a qualified technician using the correct parts. We service equipment of any brand - steve@todayfitness.com.au.
This page is general guidance. The manufacturer's manual for your specific machine takes precedence over anything written here, and operators remain responsible for their own work health and safety obligations.
